The JQ shear pump is specifically designed for shearing polymers and clays in drilling fluids. In the drilling fluid system, polymers (or clays) should be fully sheared before entering the system to improve the performance of the drilling fluid and maximize their effectiveness. If not fully sheared, polymers may clog shaker screens during the first circulation, resulting in significant polymer loss, increased drilling costs, and difficulty in removing large-sized solid particles from the drilling fluid. Inadequately sheared polymers in the drilling fluid can also create numerous "fish eyes," which can damage the formation, reduce formation permeability, and decrease oil and gas production.
